CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson part of CommonSpirit Heath a national nonprofit health system based in Englewood Colorado. The faith-based system operates in 18 states and includes 103 hospitals. Additional services offered within the system are: long-term care assisted and residential living communities community health services organizations home health agencies and numerous outpatient facilities.

While studying towards certification, within limits of current training, and under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and general supervision of a Licensed Technician, the Pharmacy Technician Student Trainee will:

1. Learn how to prepare medication orders, including both sterile and non-sterile compounds. processing physician medication orders to ensure medications are promptly, accurately, and safely delivered.
2. Ensure all work meets regulatory compliance standards as related to the Pharmacy, Pharmacy Automation, Billing, and Inventory, USP 795 / 797.
3. Provides courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.

1. Read all provided study material and be able to perform hands-on tasks outlined in the Technician Training Checklist.

1. Provides customer service to medical professionals.

1. Follows all policies and procedures to allow for effective and efficient patient care.

1. Actively participate in department daily huddles and department meetings.

1. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist or Licensed Pharmacy Technician:

1. Prepares, packages, and distributes medication orders per physician/pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

1. Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.

1. Contributes to effective and quality operation of the department.

1. Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation; files documentation; answers telephone and pneumatic tube; and handles cash transactions.

1. Must be at least 16 years or older. 

1. Skills: Basic aptitude and math, good written and verbal communication.

1. Licensure:Register as Technician in Training with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within first week of employment.

1. Pharmacy Tech Student Trainee will be required to complete the 500 hours of training experience through the self study program and obtain PTCB certification within one year. 

1. Technology: Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows based computer system, including email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.

1. Capable of self-motivated and independent study.
